XXIIth Graduation, KSMU

By Dr. Guhan Kumarasamy

76

The 3rd of February 2010 marked the great turning point in our lives where we were left to tread the path of adulthood. It was the 22nd Convocation of Kursk State Medical University. It was the day when we parted joyfully with our Alma mater.

The glorious ceremony was held at 1st Lecture hall in Main Corpus. Despite being a small hall it was perfect for our 10-man graduating batch-like Goldilocks’ choice ;not too big,not too small.

We started off at 12pm with the arrival of our Honourable Rector of Kursk State Medical University,Professor V.A. Lazarenko. We are very grateful for his presence despite his tight schedule. Also present were Dean of Medical Faculty for Foreign Students,Professor Yu. D. Lyashev, Head of Administration of International Relations,Mr Y. S. Iobidze, his vice Mdm. Natalia Dmitrevna ,Vice Dean Galina Nikolaevna, Professor of Internal Diseases Department No.1,Prof. Knyazeva L. A , Surgeon from Surgery Department No. 1, Dr Belchenkoff and Professor of Department of Internal Disease No. 2, Prof. Saraev I. A.

The song “Gaudeamus Igitur” played as we walked gracefully to receive our hard earned scrolls. However our hearts were heavy, not willing to leave this place we called home for the past 7 years.

Dr Vigneswaran Kumarasamy was then invited to recite the Hippocrates’ Oath.

It was then when we felt rejuvenated and energized knowing the great responsibilities we were carrying on our shoulders.

Then,I, Guhan Kumarasamy was called to give a speech on behalf of the graduating batch.Certificates were given for students who excelled in sports and studies.

The ceremony was closed with the National Anthem of Russian Federation.

Mountains of flower bouquets were showered on us,friends rambled to snap pictures with us.We felt like the royalties of the day.We even went out to take pictures out in the snow and flung our mortarboard in the air.

That concluded our graduation.Though Kursk State Medical University will be miles away physically, but it will always be just a sweet thought away in our hearts.

He also touched on Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

“The Ministry of Health is committed to excellence and will ensure that doctors are motivated to be actively engaged in continual education. In the very near future, doctors will be required to attain a certain number of “minimum credit points” as a pre-requisite for obtaining their annual practicing certificates. This requirement is being incorporated into amendments to the Medical Act, which is at an advanced stage of revision and development.”
