Kursk Games 2010

It’s that time of the year again! Just listen to the hearts and minds of each Malaysian student studying in Russia now, and you can hear the same thing,” Kursk Games”.  Set to be held on the 16^th, 17^th and 18^th of April 2010, the momentum building up to this event is just humongous.

It is the common love and passion for sports that bind Malaysians together. Not only among us in Russia such grandiose sport events are held, but also in The United States (Midwest Games) and in the United Kingdom (Nottingham Games).

Since 2004, this annual event takes place rotationally in Kursk; (Kursk State Medical University), Moscow; (Moscow Medical Academy , Russian State Medical University), Nizhny Novgorod; (Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy),and also Volgograd; (Volgograd State Medical University).  Since 2007, we have had a 6^th member in our games, Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).

This event just brings out the best in us; as medical students, we are given a wonderful opportunity to showcase our talents in various sporting events, and at the same time creates a close bond between university mates, as we cheer and support for our beloved teams. And not to forget, also it is a great networking opportunity for students to ‘познакомиться’ with fellow medical students from other universities across Russia.

Students get to strut their stuff in futsal, volleyball, basketball, netball, handball, sepak takraw, badminton, table tennis, hockey and bowling. Also featured are exhibition games, namely e-games and our good ol’ “tarik tali”!!!

Being champions in 2006, 2007 and 2008, all Kurskians are hoping that history will repeat itself, what more in home ground! And to athletes and visitors from across The Russian Federation, you need not worry about your stay in Kursk during the events, cos’ we down here in Kursk are a lovable and hospitable bunch!

A word of thanks to the Malaysian Embassy to the Russian Federation, for constantly supporting us in all ways for this event.  Also not forgetting our agents, Trans Russian Co. and Magaram Enterprise for their monetary support. Without them Kursk Games 2010 would be impossible!

And so everyone is just looking at their calendars every day, just waiting for the date to fight it out in small lil’ Kursk! So let the games begin and Majulah Sukan Untuk Negara!
